{"id":2675,"date":"2026-02-02T12:06:25","date_gmt":"2026-02-02T18:06:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ashleybeanthornton.com\/?p=2675"},"modified":"2026-02-02T13:18:43","modified_gmt":"2026-02-02T19:18:43","slug":"focus_public_schools","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ashleybeanthornton.com\/es\/focus_public_schools\/","title":{"rendered":"Focus Public Schools"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-elementor-type=\"wp-post\" data-elementor-id=\"2675\" class=\"elementor elementor-2675\" data-elementor-post-type=\"post\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5285ba9c e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"5285ba9c\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\" data-settings=\"{&quot;background_background&quot;:&quot;classic&quot;}\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7a9cd129 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"7a9cd129\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">This Month's Focus: Strong Public Schools <\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-18955031 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"18955031\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a89adcd elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a89adcd\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tBy Ashley Bean Thornton <br><br>\n\nThe main reason I am running for the Texas State House is to support and strengthen our Public Schools.<br><br>\n\nMy philosophy on public education is straightforward:<br><br>\n<ul style=\"margin-left: 30px; padding-left: 20px;\">\n \t<li>If we want <strong>democracy<\/strong>, then <strong>ALL<\/strong> people need to be educated so that they can vote wisely.<\/li>\n \t<li>If we want <strong>prosperity<\/strong>, then <strong>ALL<\/strong> people need an education that prepares them for a good job now and prepares them to keep learning so that they can adapt to job opportunities of the future.<\/li>\n \t<li>If we want to be able to live together <strong>freely and peaceably<\/strong>, then <strong>ALL<\/strong> people need to learn from an early age to get along with all different kinds of people, including those who don\u2019t see things the same way they do.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<br>Public School is how we accomplish these fundamental goals.<br><br>\n\nI am proud of the Public Schools in House District 56. \u00a0There are around 20 school districts in House District 56, and I can say confidently that ALL of them are doing some fantastic things for kids!\n\n<br><br>The plain fact, though, is that schools that serve mostly kids from financially stable homes are doing better at scoring well in the state accountability system, while schools that mainly serve kids from economically at-risk households are having a much tougher time.\n\nThe great hope and promise of Public Education is that we are ALL better off if EVERYBODY has a good education.\u00a0 <br><br>To that end, the two most important goals should be:\n\n&nbsp;\n<ul>\n \t<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ol style=\"margin-left: 30px; padding-left: 20px;\">\n \t<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ol>\n \t<li>Making sure our already successful schools get the support they need to continue to succeed and to build on that success.<\/li>\n \t<li>Closing the gaps between our schools that are serving financially stable families and schools that are mainly serving financially stressed families.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<br>Our legislature should be focused on those two things.
