I\u00a0<\/em><em>will update it every time I post till it is finished.: <a href=\"https:\/\/ashleybeanthornton.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/How-is-ABT-Voting-on-the-Proposed-TX-Constitutional-Amendments-Summary-final-corrected.pdf\">Propositions and How ABT is voting<\/a>.<\/em> <\/i><em>Thank you! \u2013 ABT)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<h4><br \/>How I Plan to vote and why:<\/h4>\n<p>The thing about Property taxes is that nobody likes to <em>pay<\/em> property taxes, but we all like the things that we <em>pay for with<\/em> our property taxes: schools, police, fire protection, streets, etc. etc.\u00a0<br \/><br \/><\/p>\n<p>So, unless we are willing to sacrifice some of the services we like \u2013 and typically we are not \u2013 the big property tax bill for all of us stays the same even though some of us get exemptions.<br \/><br \/><\/p>\n<p>In other words, if we give an exemption to one group, that means all the other folks have to pay a little more.\u00a0<br \/><br \/><\/p>\n<p>I say that because one way to think about handing out Property Tax exemptions is this: \u201cAm I willing to pay a little more so that this group can pay less or not have to pay?\u201d\u00a0<br \/><br \/><\/p>\n<p>Three of the propositions are clear <strong>YES\u2019s<\/strong> to me when I think of them that way:<br \/><br \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Prop 7<\/strong> &#8211; Am I willing to pay more so that surviving spouses of veterans who died because of some disease or condition that was caused by their service can pay less? \u00a0YES. Absolutely!\u00a0 Surviving spouses of service people who died while serving already get a property tax exemption.\u00a0 To me, if your spouse dies of some condition or disease that was caused by his\/her service, that is the same as dying while serving. \u00a0So, they should get the same exemption.<br \/><br \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Prop 9<\/strong> \u2013 Am I willing to pay more so that businesses can be exempt from the first $125,000 of their taxable equipment and inventory? YES. The purpose of this proposition is to help out small businesses. \u00a0I think small businesses \u2013 think food trucks, and main street shops and restaurants \u2013 are the heart of the community.\u00a0 If this exemption helps them stay afloat and profitable, I am for it!\u00a0\u00a0<br \/><br \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Prop 10<\/strong> &#8211; Am I willing to pay more so that a person whose house burned down can get a temporary break from property taxes? \u00a0YES. Holy Cow!\u00a0 If my house burned down, the last thing I would want to have to think about is property taxes.\u00a0 I would certainly appreciate a little grace if it were me, so I am willing to grant it to other people.<br \/><br \/><\/p>\n<p>One is a <strong>NO<\/strong>.<br \/><br \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Prop 17<\/strong> \u2013 Am I willing to pay more so that a person whose land is improved by \u201cborder security infrastructure\u201d can pay less?
